Section 1
What Is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fiber that was widely used in construction materials because of its durability, heat resistance, insulation properties, and fire protection capabilities.
Although asbestos was commonly used for many years in residential, commercial, and industrial construction, it is now recognized as a hazardous material when disturbed or damaged.
When asbestos-containing materials are cut, drilled, sanded, broken, demolished, or deteriorated, microscopic fibers may become airborne and create potential health risks if inhaled.
TYPES OF ASBESTOS
Common Types of Asbestos
Chrysotile (White Asbestos)
The most commonly used asbestos type found in many building materials.
Amosite (Brown Asbestos)
Commonly found in insulation boards, ceiling products, and pipe insulation.
Crocidolite (Blue Asbestos)
